Everest: first ascent of the south-west face

On 24 September 1975, a British expedition led by Chris Bonington successfully completed the first ascent of Everest via the gruelling south-west face. Doug Scott and Dougal Haston were the climbers who reached the summit. The image shows the routes taken during the various attempts and the route of the successful ascent (in red).
